I did not have a recall for my 23 gw 3 L, but it overheated at 16,900
They put a new thermostat and water pump in.
It has been 2 weeks since I got it back no issues so far.
I did get this from one of the forums on this site,
But the dealership never mentioned it to me.

Not sure it's an actual recall yet. They are slow to roll out and notify customers.
How long did repairs take? Was your vehicle towed in?

I just had my thermostat replaced on my GW. In the shop for two weeks and I was told that there’s a recall by the service agent. I only have 11k miles on mine.

Overheating just happened to us, left my wife stranded and had to get it towed to dealershio. Thermostat. No ETA yet, they just ordered it. Anyone know what the current lead times are? We are in New York. They also said there’s a recall on the rear differential that will be replaced. Ours is a 2023 S2 carbide with the standard output I6 TT, had it since brand new and we’ve done 22k miles with no issues until this. Thought we were one of the lucky ones until now.

Manhattan Jeep. Two weeks to the day. Worst part is there are no loaners in the area available nor do they do pickup and drop off. Wagoneer promise is false advertising in my opinion.

Mine was fixed in 2 weeks for the thermostat and water pump in NH.
Same we all think we are the" lucky ones"

My name is Mandy and I’m the newest member of the thermostat club. I hate this club. I don’t want to be a member. I was stranded for 4 hours in 112 degree heat waiting on a tow when my 2023 Wagoneer SII decided it had done its job. If I would’ve seen a hole large enough, I probably would’ve pushed it on in and covered it up. It’s been n the shop for 9 days so far. They thought they fixed the problem but drove it and immediately RPMs went to 6,000 and engine temp in far side of red. Also got low oil pressure and then low oil level warnings again. Back to the drawing board. In the meantime, they said they checked the recall on seatbelt (it was fine) and also found a recall on the rear differential. They ordered part and replaced that. I’ve seen no recalls on rear differential, but I’m glad they found that before I had more trouble. Shop called today and said the issue is that the thermostat was stuck so replacement ordered. I asked the technician if he sees many Wagoneer’s coming in with problems. He said “ma’am, I’m not going to lie to you. I have 4 more in my shop right now with problems. The 20+ computer modules are so advanced that they don’t work well together and they are a nightmare to diagnose and repair.” When asked if he felt that the Wagoneer was ready to be rolled out for sale, his response was “no! They have too many problems and the computer systems are too buggy.” Now when I do finally get mine back from the shop, what do I need to be on the lookout for in terms of knowing if this problem has caused damage to the engine? I’m DEFINITELY getting rid of the Wagoneer but the 2025 model vehicles will be released in a couple of months so for value’s sake, I would really like to hold off trading until I can get the newest model of whatever I end up buying. (It will NOT be a Jeep product!!!!)

I believe it has yet to be determined on this forum if the replacement thermostats are the same as those that are faulty. If the replacement thermostats are based on a redesigned, nothing to worry about. If not, it's just a matter of time before the identical thermostat goes bad.

Welcome to the club,
now we all will wait and see if this happens again😕

Add another to this issue. My L series 2 a few weeks back would ride at higher rpm. See the pic it stays about 3k on when in any gear/speed. This would cause the vehicle to overheat. When I came to a stop the vehicle would drop the rpm down and the low oil pressure light would come on.
They are telling me thermostat. We will see.

on top of this I can’t close my tailgate automatically. Won’t shut and get a “temp” unavailable” View attachment 2593
And.........this happened to me this morning.

On my way to pick up a client, but thankfully it happened as soon as it got warmed up. Let it cool and limped it home. I first got a warning light for engine coolant too hot.

I turned around on the highway and pulled over as the temps rose again. Got a low oil pressure, but the on oars gauge said 22psi, not terribly low. Temps dropped, continued on.

If the temps were 236, or higher, the needle would move on the gauge and transmission upshifts would be delayed if not thwarted altogether. Kind of annoying that from 236 - 249 would be almost half of the gauge on the dash. If it was cool, shifting was fine. Above 236 and it would hang and needed some downhill help to upshift.

My '23 L base is more at the dealer and I mentioned the thermostat issue had been recurring. They have been good, so I think they'll listen to me. Either way, I wait. Fortunately, I have access to my brother's Expedition for this weekend and next week...

Mentioned this in a reply but I joined this morning.

'23 L base model with 24k miles. Got high temp warning, pulled over on the interstate 8 miles from home. Took the next exit and started going back home and stopped again to let cool down and got low oil pressure with an indicated 22psi.

Limped it home because I had a lot of downhill going home. If the temps rose, at all, it would delay upshifts badly. Fortunately, I have my Volvo S10 I can hop into and do took that for work.

Was able to duplicate this afternoon and it sounds like it is the thermostat.

Put your VIN into Ram's website to check for recalls. It should show a recall or customer service campaign to replace the thermostat. It's best to take care of this before it overheats! Ram did ours in early June iirc as a preventative measure.

My 2023 JGW S3 was in for U connect work in June. Dealer reportedly complied with the thermostat recall while awaiting the final disposition of the U connect problem….wound up being the UC screen which was another week.

My carbide s2 overheated Sep 13. No issues before this. We love the car. It was towed to dealership and received a loaner by the 16th. They replaced the thermostat and got it back today (Sep 18). Gonna keep a close eye on temperature going forward.

Update: on the thermostat, I am told that this is a nationwide issue and parts are on back order. ETA is now in June.
Needless to say, I’ve asked Jeep to buy back the vehicle.
I’ve had lots of problems with my 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I have 20k miles and it’s been to the shop like 6 times.

Any luck with getting the dealership to buy it back?

I have a 2023 Carbide 2 as well, and with 17000 this happened to mine in June. They replaced the thermostat and it took about a couple of weeks to go by before the coolant smell went away. One moth or so after the smell came back and the reservoir is bubbling. With that the coolant was low and there are no leaks, so it is going somewhere, and most likely in the motor. So PLEASE keep an eye on that. I have had it in two more times and the dealership cant figure it out, so as of today there is a field engineer from Jeep visiting the dealership to see if they can figure it out. All indicators from technicians outside, and engineers outside of Jeep, have said its a blown head gasket.
You have to stay on this and dont settle for BS answers. I love the vehicle overall but this is scary when motor issues arise and it doesn't bode well for longevity. We will see what happens and if there is not satisfaction to my liking and comfort then a buy back will be implemented.

Rumor has it that they're replacing the thermostat with the exact same parts so it can happen again. Can anyone confirm?
From what I read on the service bulletin, there was manufacturing that caused contamination in the ball valve and they identified about 5100 affected engines, so my guess is that not all of them have the issue and the part was not redesigned and the supplier (hopefully) found the issue and corrected it.
