BREAKING NEWS:

It appears that the new thermostats being installed in the Wagoneers are the same model as before, with no changes made. This raises the question: Is Jeep replacing them merely to fulfill the warranty obligations? I am currently on my second thermostat.

The TSB says they traced the problem to 5,100 faulty units from the supplier who produces and provides the part. While not great, these things happen, especially on a new production run for new parts on a new engine. This is most likely a better scenario than a faulty design and subsequent redesign, because this means they got it right the first time, the supplier just didn't deliver the parts IAW their contract.

They could be the same, however, the thermostat Part Number has changed to: CCAP26B1AB

Good find! I wonder why I never received that?

So I got my GW back from the Dealer, they could not get it to overheat and no error codes.

Been driving for a week now and took it one long drive, my driving temps range from 217-234 Degrees. The Gauge never moves. While on the highway the temp is about 223-227

Seems kinda hot, but maybe that is how they intend for it to operate.

I am curious what others are seeing for normal temps.

This is the message the wife got before I took to the dealer:

I drove our new MY24 GW out to Houston to swap wheels while they were still new (Texas Truck Tire), and I was surprised by how warm the oil and water temps were. But, as I found out, higher temps are normal for these motors. Personally, I think water temps over 225°F are too high but I think from I've gathered, up to 230°F are within design. I know full well how GM intended for their LS motors to run over 210°F (where water boils) so this is not unheard of. I have the trailer/tow package that says it comes with heavy-duty engine cooling given that we're in Central Texas and the Summers can be brutal. I always try and get the heavy duty cooling package on my vehicles knowing that.

That said, the TSB clearly says if you have a vehicle (VIN) within this range of 5,100 unit, dealers are to perform this service. They don't need to see it overheats in order for them to proceed with the repair. Ask them about your VIN and the VIP inquiry process, and verify if your VIN falls under one of these 5,100 affected units. Call them out on this, contact Jeep and create a Star case, or find another dealer.

On your second thermostat as in you had the original replaced and you're on your second OR replaced twice?

According to my dealer, my GW does not fall within the recall.

Thought I would update this, so our GW has been behaving and there are no more overheating warnings. I am seeing about 215-235F temps in normal driving. Just drove to Disneyland and pushed it hard up through i-5 and never saw anything over 230F.

So I guess for now we are fine and my trust is momentarily restored, still would like an update for the AM radio, but eh i could live without it.

My local GMC Dealer got a new 2025 Yukon Denali, so I took a look the other day, some really nice updates and will probably be our next purchase. That said, GMC has a LONG way to go to match the interior materials of the GW's, it so cheap feeling on anything below the seating area, such horrible carpet, and hard plastics that mar very easy and for an SUV costing 96k... geez.

Thanks for the update. I got mine replaced too and I'm seeing the same thing. I'm really praying it stays that way. Just out of curiosity, I took it to a dealership for trade in value and it was absolutely horrendous. I need to keep it for at least 3 more years.

To be fair GMC is not the direct competition for the Grand Wagoneer. The Escalade is and quite frankly, the Escalade rides nicer though I'm sure GW is more off-road capable which I have no use for. I hate the way the second row folds in the Escalade but at least it has a pass through in the middle. If I could do it all over again, I would get the Escalade over the GW.

@woh If I could do it again, I'd get a Lincoln Navigator Black Label, it's a tried and true and they honor their commitments (free pickup and delivery, free loaner, free car wash, concierge), giant dealer (Ford) network, large warranty, free maintenance, two-speed transfer case, excellent interior, lots of aftermarket parts and upgrade opportunities.

@Saltydog no one knows if the thermostat has been redesigned or if it is simply a replacement, without a redesign, it's just a replacement its a matter of time.

Very true, the GMC is not on the same level as the GW, but the price puts it in the running.

I drove the Escalade, I was not all that impressed with the ride quality I feel the GW is smoother and more controlled on the Highway. The Escalade seemed to floaty on the highway and too jittery on the city streets. Again not bad, just in comparison the GW.

My Bro in Law has a Navigator and the ride is very good, almost on the level of the GW, the highway is the only time it seems to get a bit floaty in the rear.
