I just had the thermostat go on my 2023 Series 2 Carbide edition with 17,000 miles. Thankfully they got on it and Jeep customer care expedited the part. Typical as stated from others, temp went up and oil pressure drooped and went into limp mode. Jeep customer care ordered a tow and after 3 hours they canceled on me and I ended up getting my own tow. All said a wasted 5 hours on the side of the road. However, Im still concerned about the issue that on occasion when you get on it the dash says low oil see owners manual. There is no code associated with this as engineers have stated and they couldnt duplicate it this time while being serviced for the thermostat. My concern is that its showing up for a reason and it tells me its not getting enough oil to the top of the motor. Does any one else have this along with standing outside of the vehicle with the hood open and hear a ticking sound coming from the motor? I know there were two suppliers for the oil pumps and one was not putting out oil. Just very concerning for longevity.

Anyone been able to have their’s replaced or at least have there dealer place an order based on the known 26b notification going out to some people
? Mine says there is nothing under my vin and will have to wait until FCA puts it in the system and send the letter.
John I missed what part you are looking for. If we are still on the thermostat issue mine was replaced in about 5 days and expedited to the dealer by jeep customer care. Call them and ask for a supervisor. Also mine did Not have the recall either but the dealer used common sense and ordered it and didn’t wait for a letter. That’s BS.

@Docdave have the dealer reimburse you for the tow, if they refuse go to Jeep. It took a few month but got the money back, as I had the same experience where no one came, and I finally gave up.
@LegalBrief. Yes I did that as well as spoke to a supervisor from Jeep customer care who immediately had someone send me and email so that I could email the receipt back.
Thanks for the info though and I hope others can use this info as well.

My concern is that they have not reengineered the thermostat they are just replacing them. Ford had a similar issue in 2018, it took a while for the new design and production. Does anyone know if the part number changed?

@LegalBrief, I may be able to find that out since I do have some inside Stelantis people within the area that deals with these issues. I’m being vague on the division for a reason as you might guess as to the why.

I’m very interested to know if they have a new thermostat or are replacing with the same faulty part. Please let us know what you find out.

I just bought the wife a '22 GWS3 with the 3.0L HO and the service records for it show a letter (26B) on June 1 2024 for the thermostat notice, and show that the repair was completed shortly thereafter. The truck has 9k miles on it. No records indicating overheating so hopefully it was caught in time.

Add another to this issue. My L series 2 a few weeks back would ride at higher rpm. See the pic it stays about 3k on when in any gear/speed. This would cause the vehicle to overheat. When I came to a stop the vehicle would drop the rpm down and the low oil pressure light would come on. They are telling me thermostat. We will see. on top of this I can’t close my tailgate automatically. Won’t shut and get a “temp” unavailable” View attachment 2593
I am having the same issue. Any update on your vehicle? As others have warned, I am concerned about the cascading of problems due to engine overheating.

I may be too late on this one, it was advised while bringing it in for the infi screen troubleshooting….(system reloading approximately every seven minutes)…I wa sad used of a recall for the thermostat. I didn’t see what it was, but they had it for a few days….about 90% of that time waiting for programmers to get back to dealer service technicia. They worked the recall while waiting, then finally got the final Diagnosis of R/R the infotainment screen. I recieved it back while screen was on order, arrived a week later, brought in in the following Tuesday doe screen R/R. They mentioned two parts needed for the thermostat recall, so I am figuring thermostat itself and CT sensor. To be honest, I had no symptoms of overheat, so if they didn’t mention it, I would probably be none the wiser.

Just wondering how many others here experience a mechanical break down due to engine over heating? On Saturday 2023 GW S3, which has been flawless, broke down because of a stuck thermostat. I have been told that these thermostats are on backorder with about a 45+ days wait, but still no hard ETA. They are telling me that this is popping up as a national issue.
Anyways, very disappointing, but I am in a loaner Wagoneer provided by the dealership.

Anyone else hear about this or experience it?
Ouch how do I know if the issue will happen to my wagoneer?

A decent First step would be checking the NHTSA website for recalls and eee if your VIN is on the list.

With my case, it was brought to dealer with an unrelated issue , and during check in, they told me about it. Tool about a week, but most of that was the weekend and awaiting parts. They worked the recall, while they were waiting for the U connect programmers to make a final diagnosis on what the vehicle was brought in for. A lot of “phone tag” with technician and programmers, but eventually back in service!

The thermostat is not a recall, it’s just a nightmare. There are tons of TSB (bulletins) these are to fix things. Then there are product wide upgrades that show up when the Jeep network is connected to the vehicle. Not to be confused with OTA over the air), these typically don’t work unless the informant and the maps are updated (search this site for more on this topic.

You’re always a wealth of great information. I understand all you wrote. Would it be a good idea to take vehicle to service? Or do I have to wait until the thermostat fails? I’d rather be proactive.

Put your vin in Jeep's recall tool, it lists more than recalls. The thermostat was effectively recalled by jeep for mine and it showed up there. I think they called it a customer satisfaction campaign or something, but end result was you take it in and they install the updated part.

I have zero idea.. no one seems to be able to confirm if it’s a new part number (kit) or just a tepks replacement of the exact design that failed.

Ford had this issue and had to switch manufacturers - the entire process took a long time.

Alas, my GW S2 Obsidian/14,000 miles (HO Hurricane) just had this issue. Hot day, driving up a highway hill when overheating warnings came up. I'm so blessed that I was very near to my dealership when this happened and I drove it right there. To do so, I shut off the car systems, including air conditioner, and coasted as much as I could to the dealership. The irony is that I had an appointment scheduled for later in the week and, so, they had already ordered the part for me. ... But all of these stories on the forum are quite concerning. I'm worried about the longevity of the engine. I purchased this expensive vehicle as a long-term play and I make many long road trips. But the technician said that four other Wagoneers were recently towed into the dealership for the same issue and that it is, indeed, nationwide. Very disappointing and concerning.
