It doesn’t matter, all the hurricanes have a bad design thermostat and housing.
There is no recall but a lot of blown engines. It’s still unclear if the part has materially changed or just the part number.
Add my name to the list with blown engines. SA states new part number for the thermostat: 68672901-AA replaces the defective one. I'm trying to verify because I don't want to keep the vehicle unless I can be assured this won't happen again. Awaiting approval from Stellantis for full engine replacement, no ETA at this time. They did get me a Wagoneer rental, so my dealership is standing by their promises.

Does anybody know what is the latest part number for the renewed/fixed thermostat? I know there are thermostats available now after they'd been on backorder. My understanding though is that some folks got a new thermostat that was the same part number is the one that went bad, and they are going to experience issues again. By now, there's a new part number available I just don't know which one it is.

I know this is an old thread however I am a dealer tech and I can give you an answer. Yours most likely failed before the recall for the thermostats was put out. Early 2024 a recall for the thermostat was released. Now whether your vehicle matched the sales code or not, or failed before recall release I don’t know for sure. It is unfortunately semi common on wagoneers and grand wagons. Hope that helps :)

Mine wasn’t included in the recall (I checked multiple times), and failed two days before Christmas due to the thermostat. They just put a new engine in because the head gasket cracked. All due to a cheap part. I was told the cost of the engine alone was over $40k.
if you read the notice, they only notified about 5,000 owners. There are many more they didn’t. The new thermostat only came out in July of 2024.

I was told the new part number is 68672901-AA by the dealer. It just came out in June or July 2024.

Where did you hear about a new thermostat that came out in July? Previous info said the design was fine but they just had QC issues at the supplier end. I found mixed info saying there was a new part number but even then, that could just be because Jeep found a different supplier.

This is what the dealer told me and I found some info online that showed a new thermostat came out about that time. Part number they gave me was provided in one of my posts.

I have a 2023 GW L Base. I leased it in May of 24. I have had very little issues with it, and I Love the vehicle.
Nav glitch was fixed with online update, and every once in a while, the rear wiper will stay running until the switch is re-manipulated.
I always display the full engine instrumentation in my cluster, and knowing about the thermostat issue, always kept an eye on it. The thermostat never failed, however, the Customer Satisfaction Notice came out for (22-23MY WS GMET6 Thermostat) as printed on my work order, so at 6969 miles I took advantage of the replacement. The dealer succeeded in the hours long change, and at 8055 miles now, still no problems.
The quantities and part numbers on my work order from Nov 4, 2024 are:
1 CCAP26B1AB Thermostat
1 68503555AB 0 Ring
1 68361712AB Seal-Water Pump Outlet
1 68163849AB *Antifreez-Coolant
1 4275086AE Label-Authorized Modification
1 68163849AB *Antifreez-Coolant

I hope this helps someone.

Just wondering how many others here experience a mechanical break down due to engine over heating? On Saturday 2023 GW S3, which has been flawless, broke down because of a stuck thermostat. I have been told that these thermostats are on backorder with about a 45+ days wait, but still no hard ETA. They are telling me that this is popping up as a national issue.
Anyways, very disappointing, but I am in a loaner Wagoneer provided by the dealership.

Anyone else hear about this or experience it?
I just got my Wagoneer back from the dealership after i turned it in for having the thermostat stuck closed and not opening. Here are the symptoms I experienced and would like to share with people out there. It started when I did a hard acceleration to pass lanes. Three minutes later now on the highway I started to smell very faint coolant smell with the engine temperature rising fast. I was able to pull over 1 mile after the smell. I was lucky because I was able pull in into a parking the Wagoneer's speed dropped to 1 mph until it stopped completely. Temperatures dropped down after 25 minutes and I thought I was good to go and headed towards the highway again. Again 3 minutes of highway driving and I had the same issue. Stopped and waited and repeated the process 3 more times until I made it home and had the Wagoneer towed to the dealership the next day. Keep in mind, when the Wagoneer was in overheat mode my transmission would not shift to a lower gear. High revs at low speeds. Hope this helps people out there. 2023 Wagoneer with 24k miles.

I got a message for a "customer satisfaction" recall for the thermostat. Dealership says it's not mandatory to do but I can have it replaced if I want to. I've had no issues with overheating (knock on wood), should I just leave it alone? I'm a little wary to let the local dealership open up my engine if not needed.

I have my doubt that the local dealer will be able to open up my engine and not mess anything up. I got the same customer satisfaction notice but I'm thinking to leave things alone.

I would have it done, I travel to a dealership that is about an hour away to have mine worked on. The local one is good for oil changes and that's it. Mine took 2 weeks , waiting for parts and it was a holiday week.
I have the same as you gw l 2023 mine went at 16,000 miles it's been replaced and water pump and no issues so far. Call ahead of time make sure they have parts and a loaner for you.
I do understand you don't want people poking around and messing it up, but you don't want to be stranded. Mine went in The summer in NH here, I had time to pull over and let it sit and then slowly get it to a safe place so they could tow it.
Temps went up to 255 and it told me it was hot. I did have a pre warning sign as I had the ac on but it started blowing warm about 5 minutes before the lights and gauge went red.
I have not gotten this notice? Maybe because mine was already replaced in July 2024, but somewhere on the forum it was said a different part # was used starting in July 2024 so I have no idea if I got it or not.
So I keep the In
formation gauges on in the center drivers dashboard. I'm a temperature watcher now, this motor runs warmer then others. Also had the battery recently replaced and watch the volts now too.

I also just had a slow leak that requires a new tire. With temps dropping down to almost 0 in MA over the past couple weeks, I couldn't afford to have what ended up being a small nail eject in the extreme cold. The controls for the dash are a bit confusing, so scrolling side to side to see the temps, oil pressures, voltages and tire pressures has me a pretty good expert on finding things quickly now.

I actually find it interesting to gauge watch, especially as the vehicle warms up. If you understand how the thermostat works, it's cool watching it fluctuate at certain temps under certain loads. What's also interesting is how long it takes for the trans temps to warm up, especially if you get in a highway right away. If it never shifts, it needs ambient temps to get it fully warm.

Anyways, back to your regularly scheduled program...

Runs great until it doesn’t, and this one will surprise you out of nowhere. Get stuck in closed position and you are in a bind. No truck until they can actually get the part and get you in for service. A few weeks at best these days.

or you could be proactive, schedule this shared if time and only be inconvenienced for one day. I’d take that over the other option 100 times out of 100.

Get it done or it will eventually fail and leave you stranded. Some of us have had our engine ruined also.
