Ok gang, I got rid of my 6.4 GW just before the warranty ran out so I had plenty seat time with the 6.4. I had no complaints about it at all and it even got way better fuel mileage than claimed when on trips. Regular driving at home it didn’t produce any fantastic numbers but I knew that when I bought it.
I picked up my new one with the hurricane that I was sure I was gonna be unimpressed with but the wife wanted it so that sealed that deal right on up. Well, I can’t say a bad thing about it’s performance. I can’t say I like it any less or better than the 6.4 so on performance I call it a draw. I thought the sound would be where I might want to barf but gang let me tell you, it is super quiet inside & the note coming out the tailpipe is almost Cummins like. A deep purr that is not remotely unattractive. Since quiet is exactly what I desire today I give it the nod on sound.
The mpg claims they make according to my experience is absolutely total capital BS! I made the same 1200 mile trip I made with my 6.4 the day I bought it. The 6.4 stayed in the 20’s but the hurricane barely broke 15!
Again, if you bought one of these you didn’t even consider MPG’s in your decision. I can confidently say either one I’m more than satisfied with.

@TexasJester , Thanks for the review of the HO Hurricane. We need more of these sort of owner reviews of the SO and HO Hurricane engines. Especially the comparisons to the 392 Hemi.
I have two questions for you: (1) How is the acceleration between 60 and 80 MPH (overtaking speeds on the freeway) compared to the Hemi? (2) The low highway MPG you got on the Hurricane, could it be due to the engine not being broken in (not sure how many miles you had on the Hemi when you made the same trip previously)?

The highway acceleration was fine. Literally the only difference is the hurricane does it quietly! Completely happy with its performance, but I wouldn’t want anyone to go to it from a 6.4 that was counting on better fuel mileage because in my experience it’s just not there.
Both vehicles I bought a couple of days before making the exact same trip from central Texas to pagosa springs Colorado. Both vehicles only had a couple hundred miles and made the identical trip.

Thanks for the response. The impressive highway fuel efficiency you experienced echoes that of other some owners and professional reviewers. Maybe it is the Hemi MDS. Or because the big naturally aspirated 6.4L is hardly utilizing its potential under steady state highway driving.
This TT 3.0 inline 6 better pay off for Stellantis, given their investment in this ICE, ignoring other naturally aspirated ICE development.

I'm coming off of a HC that barely broke 12mpg in normal mixed driving. So if I can muster 15 out of the HO-6, I'll be happy.
Thanks for the review.
I put a few hundred miles on it before heading out on my trip. In mixed driving those few hundred miles it only hit 13 mpg. Kind of disappointing that it’s only 1 mpg better than my TRX but I didn’t buy it with any thought of it possibly being anything like a Prius.

Thanks for a great review. I really want to see more reviews from folks with different driving conditions. I have the 2022 grand Wagoneer, which of course is a 6.4 hemi. Most of my driving is mixed and leaNing more towards around town. I don’t know that moving 6400 pounds around as a better solution than either motor. If I feather my gas pedal and struggle for mpg, I can do 14 around town. If I drive it the way I like to it’s more like 10. Honestly I’m an old motor head with a heavy foot, and I do enjoy hearing that 6.4 exhaust note. I would consider a hybrid version of this vehicle if it becomes available, but I would have to see significant gas savings of 25 around town and 35 on the highway , that would be outstanding and would get me to surrender my 6.4.

I’ve chatted with TexasJester about this before. I have never experienced 20s, even on long trips … except coasting downhill. I consistently get 13 around town and 16 on the road, and that agrees with all the other GW owners I’ve talked to. Admittedly, I normally cruise at 80, so if I cut back to 55, I might get it into 20s, but that would make for a long trip between Houston and Phoenix. That said, I’m still completely satisfied with the GW; mileage didn’t surprise me. I would consider the Cummins engine, if the rumors ever come true.

I've had my 2022 GW for almost a year and done several long trips in it, and I've had no problems hitting 20+ mpg on most trips depending on the speed. One 500+ mile trip was 90% freeway cruising at 80 mph and we ended up at 19 mpg. Another was 450 miles of mainly 70 mph cruising on highways and we got 20.7 mpg. This past weekend we did a ski trip to a place that's 75 miles away and I got 22.5 mpg. Around town in daily driving we're sitting at 13-14 mpg. I am very positively surprised by the fuel economy on the 6.4 Hemi for long-range trips and my only wish is that it had a slightly bigger fuel tank. We traded in a 2016 Cadillac Escalade ESV and that came with a 28 gallon tank whereas our new GW is 22 gallon (I think)? Compared to the Cadillac we get about the same mileage in town and a little bit better on longer trips with almost 20% more power to boot.

Actually the shorter grand and regular Wagoneers have a 26.5 gal tank, with the L extended versions having a 30 or 30.5 gal tank.
I know the Navigator gets a 23 and 28 gallon tank in the short and long versions, respectively. So the Wagoneer's tanks are not bad by those standards. Though I also wish they were bigger.
