Has anyone been able to access a USB power connection port inside of the Wagoneer windshield rear view mirror mounting housing ? I have a Garmin 65W Dash Cam that I'd windshield mounted in previous vehicle, but now don't want to hassle w/ routing wires around windshield molding and under dashboard to a power source. Just don't know how to remove the windshield mirror (w/o breaking something) and plastic housing to access the power connection that's inside there.

I'm curious about this one as well. Can you see this USB power connection but can't access it or is totally buried that you have to remove panels to access?

There isn't any visible connection from the outside of housing, so if there is one it's burried inside the plastic housing of the rear view mirror mount. I would think it's likely that there are "electronic" wiring and/or connections behind the housing, as that's where I would believe all the "brains" for auto-high beam, adaptive cruise, etc. are inside of this cover (that then looks out forward thru the windshield). I just don't want to break something during attempt to access inside housing. I might take Wagoneer to a "Windshield Repair Shop" as they would need to deal with this area during replacement work for new windshield.

Funny - I have the kit sitting on my desk, but haven't gotten around to doing it. I found it on amazon "Type C- USB Intelligent Hardwire Kit".

You-tube how to remove the mirror cover - clips seem a bit tricky!

Wow ! Thanks for feedback... I went to Amazon and searched for the heading you provided, but not sure which specific unit you bought. Both "Dongar" and "Cable Creations" make a 6" long adapter for the rear view mirror hook-up and seem to be the most technically savy suppliers. Also, can you provide a specific link to the You Tube video you referenced. Thanks again for your input.... it is a confusing operation. I just don't want to route wiring around windshield gasket and then under dash to a power source.

Not the exact video but close.

Here is a hard wire video.

Neither is exact be careful! (the exact one maybe out there but I'm not a patient searcher :)

This may work as long as the connector is the same 10 pin that is used on the Ram.

Sorry I'm a little late to this thread but I will share how I connected my radar detector and maybe that will help. It has been functioning perfectly since October.

Here's what it looks like now:

The cover behind the mirror was a bit tricky to get off at first since I wasn't sure how it was attached but it just has 4 clips that need to be pushed in one at a time and then the main body pulls straight off.

The location I decided to use is the connector to the mirror that powers the auto-dimming. This was mostly because of location, ease of access, and the blades on the tap fit without too much effort. Red/Yellow for fused ignition power (no power when car is off), Black for ground, and Purple for control (light sensor, do not use).
Location of power to mirror connector.

After that it's just a matter of routing the wire and putting it back together.

Finished Power Tap Installation

Hope that helps! I also have a dash cam but I routed an extra long wire though the headliner and down the A pillar to the fuse box under the dash and tapped into power there because, as far as I know, that's the closest location to find direct power from battery even when the vehicle is off. I want my dash cam to still work in 'park mode' and it won't without power all the time. I can post some photos of that too if anyone is interested.
