2nd row middle console DELETE or middle seat DELETE

22060 Views 39 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  tylynnham
Hello,

As we know the grand Wagoneer cannot be ordered with 2nd row captain chairs WITHOUT the huge center console.

So I have two questions:

1. Is it possible to completely remove the center console? I know there are climate controls etc. in the center console but if I want to create a pass-through space in the second row of a Grand Wagoneer I am wondering if it's possible to complete remove this center console.

2. Likewise, if I order a grand wagoneer with the second row bench seat with 40/20/40 configuration, would it be possible to completely remove the middle "20" seat completely out of the vehicle to create a pass through space?

Thanks!

YES - a million times yes! Same here. I wish there was an option to order captain seats without middle row console. I see some have removed and are then covering floor with all weather mats. Why doesn't Jeep offer this option? Also, any issues with Wagoneers? I've had a Toyota Land Cruiser that I've loved and still do. But with two growing, active children and a 90lb black lab that goes everywhere with us, I'm wishing for a little extra space. I've heard concerns about quality of Jeep vs. Toyota. I'd appreciate any insight y'all can offer! TIA!

FYI you can buy just the 2nd/3rd combo mat to cover that gap for $100 from weathertech. 2022 Jeep Wagoneer Floor Mats - Laser measured Floor Mats For Perfect Fit | WeatherTech

I already have the 8 passenger mats, but plan on removing the center jumper seat for longer trips, so thats my plan. swap out the rear mats when I remove/reinstall the center seat. As pointed out above its pretty quick and easy to unbolt and pull it out. Id also bet money the GW center console would bolt into that hole as well.
That's cool! That's new from when I did my removal. I checked Weathertech's site back then - they only had a 2-piece solution at the time (their current 8-passenger set.)

Will order this new one and update everyone on how it looks.
Thanks for sharing. Since you removed the center console and that had the controls for the rear heated seats, AC, etc. I'm assuming you can still control it all from the front? Did it cause any glitches or errors?
For me, I had the upgrade package without the center console - it had a middle seat. This middle seat upgrade package also moves the 2nd row controls to the back of the front console - as there is no console to put them on.

If I had the console in the rear, it would be harder to remove as it has those controls. The middle seat option ironically makes the removal more realistic.
Ok, I got and installed the weathertech one piece seat mat. Other than one glaring issue, they work great.

The issue is pretty annoying though - there is a large space that is blocked off in front of the console:

I’ve ping‘ed WeatherTech customer service - and their response was pretty poor (sorry, its just that way..)

So if you’re considering this - be aware of it. My kids tend to spill in the center a lot, and coverage of that area would be ideal.

I went with the floor liner from a regular 8 row configuration and molded my own center floor cover to cover the removed middle seat. I also didn’t like how the weather tech wasn’t wide enough between the two captains chairs and left a gap on the sides, guessing because the real captains chairs have bulkier plastic in the side. Bolted to a Z bracket that I had lying around that’s wedged under each captain chair frame, not going anywhere.

What did you mold the center floor cover out of? This is my favorite option- but would love more information. Or I would pay you to ship me one!

It was just an ABS plastic sheet I had laying around and took a blowtorch to the sections that needed to be bent.
Has anyone tried to remove the center console yet. It is a problem with my grand kids. The screen on it will not last much longer and it is truly in the way.
IT DOES COME OUT. The sides pop off very easily, start a back. Once the sides are off there are 4 bolts, one on each corner, and an electrical plug on the passengers side. Then lift out. There will be some work with the bracket that holds the console as it is different than removing center seat. But not a big deal.

Update on taking the console off: the screen on the console is needed to run the other screens. I removed the screen from the console and zip tied it to the underside of the passenger side second row seat. All works well.
Were there issues with the body control module (BCM) that needed to be addressed? I want to remove a captains seat but get all sorts of console and alerts on dash that I have not yet been able to bypass or delete?

Hello there. Just purchased a GW Series II and would love to know any more recommendations for removing the rear console without breaking anything. Does the climate control just unplug or do I need to remove any wiring?
If for some reason you go through with pulling your console out please sell it to me!
I may remove mine - still interested in purchasing?

Hi there - what "other screens" are you referring to?

Same here, our dealership is open to removing but they don't know any potential electrical / codes effect this may have. Anyone have insight?

Do you have a picture of the inside once removed? Would be so helpful!

Definitely interested in removing middle bench seat for exact reasons - please keep me posted
All— I‘m potentially interested in replacing my second row bench with captains chairs. We have the tupelo leather. Brand New. If anyone interested— please send a DM.

If — on the other hand— anyone is CERTAIN that the measurements make this impossible— please do say something. . . .I’d love to know before I make a huge mistake.
I am not sure if anyone has removed the middle seat of the bench, but I did and have added photos here. There are four areas that expose the metal and a power cord (see photo). I purchased the Weathertech floor mats in hopes it covers the holes, if not I may just add a flat plastic strip to cover the holes and put the bolts back in. Took about 10 minutes total to do. 6 total bolts. View attachment 1453
I have done this exact same thing to my wife's XC90. Makes it much easier to get to the third row and works best for our family of 5. My boys are getting bigger and wife would like a GW and we are trying to decide what to do. Did you have issues with the occupancy sensor? I had to wire a resistor to "trick" the computer into thinking it was still in place. Is that a power cable only? or does it have an occupancy sensor. Does it make warnings go off on the dash when unplugged?
Following up for anyone else who's interested in doing this - here's what I did to "clean up the look" a bit.

First, I pushed the cord for the seat connector under the rug - there's a groove there and it fits pretty easily.

Next, I got a couple grommets to fill the glaring holes in the chassis. I used a SoftSeal SS-0181 plug (1/2 in) and it fit good in the front elongated gap, but I had to trim it to fit in the back hole. I ordered a few extra and stuck them in some of the screw holes - they don't really fit there but good as any place to keep.

To cover the gap - I ordered the WeatherTech Trim to Fit mats - Trim-to-Fit Semi-Universal Car Floor Mat | WeatherTech .

I then trimmed the back strip mat as such:

After trimming - the two sides fit pretty well front/back and made a fairly seamless look (for now.)

This worked out well since I already had the factory water liners - the weathertech trim to fit was a good enough match for now (until someone finds/makes something better.)
